We want you to feel completely comfortable on your shoot. With that in mind, it is truly up to you with how much or how little skin you show. We love for our shoots to show our client’s personality, so feel free to bring something special as well as props. If there’s one piece of advice I can give you regarding how to prepare for a boudoir shoot, it’s this: don't be afraid to have fun! We usually start out shooting with a little more clothing. As you become more comfortable, we can work our way through your outfit choices. Feel free to bring lots of your favorite outfits and we’ll pick out the best for the shoot.

​

Bra and Undies: Most importantly, bring at least one bra and undies set. Start with basic black and then add colors and patterns. Bras and undies can be photographed alone or paired with any of the other clothing items or accessories you bring. They are also helpful when setting up implied nude poses. (Consider high waisted undies shape wear and/or corset belt, if tummy is area of concern.)

​

Lingerie: A bodysuit, vintage slip, teddy , shape wear and/or camisole always photographs well.  High wasted undies, Thigh high stockings, a garter belt, and heels are super sexy too.   We have built our studio to work with all colors as well as various patterns and fabrics. Start simple and grow more extreme from there. Think about what colors look good on you.

​

Casual Attire: Everyday clothing such as sheer tops, jeans, can look cute and sexy if photographed properly.  A simple white tank top or camisole can be super cute!  If this is a gift for your partner then bring something from his wardrobe. This can be one of his favorite ties, or a button down shirt.  Anything that makes the images more personal and sexy to him! It also adds variety to your collection of outfits and will look great in the final book.

Accessories: You can easily modify the look of your outfit by changing your accessories and moving to a new background.  Accessories include jewelry, scarves, hats, stilettos, stockings, garter belts, etc.

​

Far and away the most common area women worry about is their tummy area. The entire torso area is a concern for many plus size women and also very fit mothers who have stretch marks from their pregnancies. This area is so commonly worried about that we estimate somewhere between 70-80% of the women that come in to shoot with us mention it at as their concern. The good news here is there are a ton of sexy options to help you with this area! For women worried about their torso we recommend looking at the following styles of lingerie:

Corset: One of the favorite pieces for most women, the corset will hide all of your sensitive areas while accentuating your feminine form.

​

Under Bust Corset: Same as the corset but sexier, the under bust draws attention to your chest while simultaneously contouring your torso. This is the perfect solution for women worried about their tummy but who love their boobs!

​

Baby doll: Drawing attention to your chest and providing support, the baby doll is basically a flowing lingerie mini dress. Seriously effective tool every plus size women should consider.

​

Teddy: Sometimes called “body suits” these pieces show off your chest while shaping your overall form and giving your tummy cover. Very effective for all body types.

​

Chemise: Perfect for defining your body shape while ironing out torso imperfections. Great lingerie choice for mature women over 40 with tummy insecurities.

​

High Waist Panties: One of the favorite ways to hide the pooch on the lower stomach while still showing some skin below the bra line. This is one of one of my go to tips for moms that get the lower ab separation and or stretch marks after childbirth.

 

Sweater: Sweater and your favorite pair of panties.

​

T-Shirt: Posed seductively and without a bra to attract attention to your chest, the humble t-shirt is often overlooked for things to bring. Make sure and opt for shirts with wide or low cut necks for more alluring poses.

​

Tank Top: Similar idea to the wide neck t-shirt, the tank top is a pretty great way to show off some side boob and downplay your torso.

​

Romper: Popular beginning outfit for women with that boho style, just make sure to get a style that opens wide with a rear zipper for better posing opportunities.

​

Sports Coat: Just the sports coat by itself or sometimes paired with a thong can make a great attire.

​

Lace Gown: Lace gowns are something all women should consider for their photo shoots! Make sure and get one that’s tight and stretchy to accentuate your form. The pattern can be very effective at hiding skin imperfections while still being see though sexy.

Probably the second most common thing we hear women mention at their consults is nervousness about their chest. For some women it’s a lack of size they’re worried about, for others it’s a lack of perkiness which is common among mothers and mature women. We’ll address both of these circumstances separately. For moderate to large breasted women worried that their boobs aren’t perky enough, this is actually a pretty easy fix and you will find tons of lingerie options to help you with this. All the following styles of lingerie are perfect for those who aren’t worried about size, but need more support.

​

Teddy: With the built in support of a bra, teddy’s have the added bonus of giving you maximum cover of your torso if you feel like you need it. Many will clip in to your stockings too if you need leg cover or help with cellulite.

​

Balcony Bra: For large breasted women who don’t need cover on their torso these will be a pretty awesome investment when paired with matching panties. For those that need a bit of cover on their tummies you can pair these with high waisted panties for awesome results. Balcony bras almost have a shelf that hugs your torso under your boobs and provides great lift without smooshing them together like other styles might.

 

Corset: Corsets are famous for their ability to produce drool worthy cleavage, but they can also enhance your silhouette as an added bonus! All women who aren’t exceptionally flat chested should strongly consider a corset for their photo shoot.

 

Chemise: This chemise was form fitting which will not only enhanced the shape and support of her chest, but also acted as a body shaper for the rest of her torso.

 

Baby doll: Baby dolls with built in bras are fantastic for busty women that need the support. This style of lingerie also commonly has the added bonus of the sheer material for your tummy if you have stretch marks or scars you want to conceal.

 

Night Gown: Pretty much the same idea as a baby doll, these tend to be less sheer and more vintage looking if you’re into that sort of look.

BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY - WHAT TO WEAR: SMALL CHEST IDEAS

The other common worry among many of my clients (especially skinnier women at the other end of the spectrum) is the small size of their chest. With good posing and lighting techniques you will look much bigger than what you see in your day to day life. To give the illusion of more volume most women with small breasts will benefit greatly from the following options:

​

Sweater: Winter turtle necks or high cut sweaters like this always have that conservatively sexy feel to them. Make sure and choose high cuts or wide necks for more posing options and better final images.

​

Scarves: A scarf is like boudoir sleight of hand. We use them out of these to draw attention away from areas you’re sensitive about and toward the other areas of your body you love!

​

Push Up Bra: The classic solution for small breasted women. Make sure and get a bra that pushes your boobs up and in to give the illusion of more volume without being so tight around your torso that it creates the loose skin look out the top and bottom of the torso strap.

​

Chemise: Simple slips with conservative top details are a good idea for very small breasted women. We’ll keep the attention on aggressive cross lighting for maximum shadow (and thus larger perceived size) and accentuating your other curves like your hips.

​

Bralette: Similar idea to the push-up bra, but less aggressive for giving the illusion of size. The benefit of the bralette with the wide torso strap is that they will show case your figure better if you are a person who holds extra fat around your rib area. Skinnier torso straps can cut into your skin and accentuate this sensitive area. If this is a problem for you just remember, the wider that torso strap is the better!

This area is less common than the areas mentioned above, but we still hear about it enough to address it. This area can be a sensitive spot for plus size women and can be a challenge to shop for. We’ve seen some really nice sleeved pieces some women have brought in, but they’re not super common to find out in the wild when you’re looking for them.

​

Robes: Anything long sleeve will be worth every penny if you’re worried about your upper arm area. Robes are always a good idea and provide tons of posing opportunity.

​

Button Up Shirt: Yours or his is up to you. I tend to like them better when they’re yours as they are more form fitting and sexy AF to work out of. That said he’ll LOVE the shot where he’s implied! Anything long sleeve and open front will give you a lot of opportunity.

​

BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY - WHAT TO WEAR: THIGHS & LEGS IDEAS

Another super common area women tend to be self conscious about is their legs, especially the thigh area where cellulite and varicose veins are common. The easiest way around this is simply to get a sexy set of stockings and just rock those! We'd suggest you bring any of these examples if you’re sensitive about your thighs and legs:

​

Lace Stockings: Provides heavy cover for your legs while still keeping it sensual. Every woman should consider a pair of these for their photo shoot.

 

Fishnet Stockings: great accent that provides light leg cover. These can be pretty awesome when paired with a matching top, bottom and garter belt.

 

Thigh High Socks: Pretty much all of you reading this should consider bringing a pair of these to your photo shoot. They’re pretty great for just about everyone and give the opportunity for a few extra poses you can’t do if you’re not wearing them.

 

Jeans: Jeans are a pretty great way to begin your set and provide awesome cover. There’s tons of sexy ways to work out of them as your set progresses. It should go without saying to choose the pair that makes your butt look the best.
